We live in bewildering times. We see an abundance of significant and often abrupt shifts - politically, economically and technologically. Some changes, however, appear slowly and are harder to observe. But their impact can be staggering. In an uncertain, ambiguous world, the need for sound strategic thinking becomes ever more important.
Uncertainty as a source of learning
Charting a new course is easier said than done. Changing political conditions, changing market situations or demands from new owners, may be difficult to anticipate and interpret. Foresight is about using this uncertainty to develop novel thinking and innovative solutions. Foresight methods are used to create open, participatory strategy processes. Foresight is subject to increased interest around the world. Foresight is used by governments, large companies, clusters of industries and regional authorities and communities. In Norway, many companies and organisations now seek knowledge about what foresight is and the many benefits of using foresight methods.
