A team development process

Nets was created through a merger of Danish PBS and Norwegian BBS and Teller, and is among the largest companies in Northern Europe in the market for payment cards, payment solutions and data transmission. Nets Merchant Solutions (Nets MS) delivers payment terminals and solutions, loyalty and gift cards, and related value-adding services to traditional bricks-and-mortar businesses as well as net-based retailers.

Working on regular meetings with actual business challenges

TPG delivered a team development process with the leader team in Nets MS through a year. The process started immediately upon the merger in the Spring of 2010, and comprised 12 workshops of two-to-three days, as well as complementary activities between the workshops. The entire process was built around Nets MS’s regular management meetings and the actual business challenges arising there.

The main goal of the project was to help the Nets MS leader team function more effectively, work across the Northern European markets, and achieve synergy effects from the merger.

The team development process included

  • Leveraging of diversity
  • Good decision making processes
  • Cooperation across Northern European markets

The themes in the process were defined through interviews with the leader team in advance and through the course of the project, together with the leader team’s score on a tool, the Team Performance Indicator. TPG also coached leaders, helped prepare leader meetings, and acted as a sparring partner between meetings.

Better equipped to achieve ambitions and create results

Following conclusion of the process TPG have received reports of changed behaviour among the leaders, for example: “Per has started to listen!” and “We have a better dialogue among the team,” and “we have greater confidence in the team.”

Based on the leader team’s own self-evaluation they have achieved a higher score in all their prioritised areas of development. The process has contributed to a more capable and effective Nordic leader team, better equipped to achieve their ambitions and create results.
