Ian McIntyre ran his own engineering consultancy before studying for an MBA at the Norwegian School of Management (BI). Since his graduation in 2000 he has worked for TPG on leadership development and strategy implementation – helping people to see how they can to behave a bit differently tomorrow than they behave today. He has worked at the board and corporate management levels and also with operators on industrial shop floors. His special competence is in the field of leadership and he holds a MSc in the field from Henley Business School in the UK. He is running a research project into the relationship between work design and organisation commitment and performance excellence which, when finished, should qualify him for a doctorate, also from Henley. He is interested in, and tweets regularly on, the following areas of interest for leadership -
- Work design – the way work is organised and arranged for employees to raise commitment and enhance business performance.
- AgeQuake – the implications of leading organisation consisting of four generations of colleagues.
- Happiness, choice and decision-making in business
Ian is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and has a history from the offshore oil and gas industry. During a successful career he had assignments in Europe, the Far East and the Arabian Gulf with extensive travelling in the rest of the world. His career included offshore, on-site and office positions designing, constructing and starting up installations. The experience he gained in these high stress environments, working with diverse teams, gave him the perfect background for dealing with complexity. He has 16 years’ experience of project or line management positions with up to 400 reports. Ian is a board member of The Performance Group AS, Chairman of Conpart AS, sits on the committees of two voluntary organisations and is a member of the International Mentor Programme for Masters students at BI.
